ALEIK MADDOX RELEASES SINGLE "I WISH I NEVER HAD A DREAM"
Musician's track now streaming on all major platforms
As he hones his craft in front of live Denver audiences, Aleik Maddox has released "I Wish I Never Had a Dream," a single recorded in 2020 that's now widely available. The track shares the musician's vulnerable side as he wrestles with the fine line between creative success and spending time with loved ones.
"How much of myself do I contribute to music, and how much of myself do I contribute to family, friends and relationships?" Maddox reckoned with in crafting this song. "People don't always see the work, the rehearsals, the penny-pinching to save for new equipment. People don't see how much you beat yourself up when you're not practicing and how much you invest in it, how much sleep you lose at night. They just see the party of it. This was my first time trying to be completely authentic within the words."
"I Wish I Never Had a Dream" features Maddox deftly tackling the vocals, guitar and bass parts with prowess and seasoned skill, while Nikao Wallace contributes with drums. The pair collaborated to enhance the song with synthesizers and background vocals, drawing musical inspiration from the synth sounds of Prince and the backup vocals of Steely Dan.
"I’m trying to work my way to freedom through my creativity. It is hard to get people to understand that, especially in friendships and relationships. I sat down and attempted to capture those feelings through song, to express to the people that I love that one day this is all going to work out for all of us," Maddox said. "In chasing a dream, you must be prepared for loss. Some losses make you wish you never had the desire to begin with, however, it only makes you stronger."
Maddox grew up watching his father sacrifice to provide for his family while exploring his own career as a musician.
"I always had huge apple pie dreams when it came to creativity, but I also got the real-life view of how difficult it can be, how much work and effort goes into the lifestyle," Maddox said of his father. "He armed me with that resilience just by letting me be a part of writing sessions, rehearsals and recording. I didn't get to touch the instruments yet, but I got to see the process."
"I Wish I Never Had a Dream" was recorded in Uptown Shelby, North Carolina. The track was mixed and mastered by Andreas Leyer, a
talented musician in Germany. It has now hit all streaming platforms.
